Public Health Services

At Raukura Hauora O Tainui our Public Health Team are working closely within our community to engage with our whanau through our kura, kohanga and marae to reduce the health inequalities associated with:

  • Poor nutrition
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Tamariki health

Many of our whanau are experiencing poor health outcomes such as diabetes, heart disease, childhood illnesses, obesity, alcohol and drug abuse.  To support them to make better health choices for the benefit of their whanau we provide a range of activities to empower and influence them by:

  • Increasing community participation in driving policy change
  • Identifying and developing whanau champions to effect behaviour change
  • Engaging with community to provide awareness of positive health changes through educational programmes
  • Health promotion awareness campaigns

The Public Health Team can offer support and resources to equip our communities to minimise the harmful effects of an unhealthy lifestyle and actively work to improve better health outcomes.
